CREATING FROM HOME - Robert Girolami

Partaking in Media Trials from Home by Robert Girolami

Hello everyone, my name is Robert Girolami and my specialty is acting and scriptwriting. Also, I enjoy editing and teaching others a couple of acting tips.

I have been working at home since the pandemic started. It was very difficult at first due to not requiring many of the various programs and equipment needed for creating my projects and challenges during Media Lab. I have many tools at home that I use like my laptop, tablet and phone. I use both my laptop and tablet to film, edit, record, and take pictures. My phone allows me to record, film and take pictures if I have to.

The editing software’s I use are DaVinci Resolve, Stop Motion Pro and FlipAClip. I recently began using these programs when I had to work from home. During each week for new weekly challenges, I had to download new programs to be able to partake in them. My favourite program is DaVinci Resolve because it allows me to put together my footage and sound.

I have mostly been working on the weekly challenges during Creative Media Lab. My most recent project is a murder-mystery play I’ve been writing through Celtx. It takes place in Montreal East during the Covid-19 pandemic. A group of friends, struggling to survive during Covid-19, get involved within a series of murders that leads them to figure out who is responsible while trying to stay safe and healthy. I chose this project because I wanted to express my ideas into a story where it feels real to the audience and where the characters are well-diverse based on the delivery by the actors.

I found it very challenging at first since this was my first time working at home. I was worried and scared due to not possessing the programs necessary to work on the film projects for Spectrum from home. Once I required the editing software and filming tools, it took time to get used to working from home, but eventually got the hang of it right away.

When I was doing Stop Motion Pro for the first time, I had to keep taking pictures for my videos in different frames. During the film shoot, I got interrupted by my sister when she opened the door in her room and walked out while I was filming. Luckily, I wasn’t shooting anything when it happened.

I learned that sometimes you have to work with what you have and make the best of it. Also, nothing will ever be 100 percent on the first go. Finally, it’s never easy to adapt but you eventually do.

If anyone can adapt quickly at home as I did, so can everyone.
