SPECTRUM PARTNERS WITH THE MEL HOPPENHEIM FAMILY FOUNDATION AND CENTENNIAL ACADEMY TO LAUNCH LUNCHTIME FILM CLUB

This year, Spectrum Productions has partnered with The Mel Hoppenheim Family Foundation and Centennial Academy to launch the Centennial–Productions Spectrum Media & Film Club, a super fun and engaging lunchtime filmmaking program designed to spark creativity and build some new filmmaking skills.

Centennial Academy is an independent French and English high school dedicated to supporting complex learners who benefit from structured, personalized approaches to education. With small class sizes, specialized teaching strategies, and a strong commitment to building confidence, Centennial provides an environment where students who learn differently can thrive. We couldn’t imagine a better place to introduce accessible filmmaking activities and hands-on creative tools.

Starting in mid-October, facilitators from Spectrum Productions visited Centennial Academy each week to run the lunch hour film club and guide students through our Spectrum Public Access activities—simple, adaptable exercises that make filmmaking approachable for all learners. Since the launch of this growing collection of activities, students got to explore:

🎧 Foley sound creation – using voices and every day objects to make sound design in film.
🎨 Stop-motion and basic animation – capturing and drawing stories frame by frame with hands on techniques.
🎬 Spectrum Review – writing and producing reviews that spotlight students’ ideas and perspectives on their favorite films and games.

The Centennial–Productions Spectrum Media & Film Club is made possible through the generous support of the Mel Hoppenheim Family Foundation, whose longstanding commitment to education, creativity, and youth development helps make programs like this come to life. Their particular interest in educational programs in film and cinema aligns closely with our mission, and enables us to bring filmmaking opportunities directly into Centennial Academy, empowering young people to express themselves, build new skills, and discover their artistic voices.

This partnership reflects a shared belief that filmmaking is for everyone, and that when young people are given the tools to tell their stories, their voices shine.

We can’t wait to share what the students of Centennial Academy create. Submitted selections will be added to our Spectrum Public Access live stream on our Spectrum Productions YouTube channel. Stay tuned - you won’t want to miss a thing!
